From 1000-1300: The Silk Road

Quickly let me write about what I learnt in the online course "A history of the world since 1300". It is a great course with a good lecturer. I write about the world from 1000 to 1300.

The Silk Road was the main commercial network across Afro-Euroasian lands. Arabic was the main language, and the Arab merchants established the first lending agencies, managed by their relatives, to handle the trade from China to Europe. Many caravans including Samarkand were established on this trading road.

One catastrophe that happened in the 13th century was the emergence of Mongols with the leadership of Genghis Khan. Genghis Khan attacked so many territories in 25 years that Roman empire did not during 400 years. They took the lands from South Russia, to Baghdad, to China, but not able to defeat India or Japan.Mongol invaded the Nazmieh library in Baghdad and threw so many books into the Tigris (Dejleh) river that the water was reported to have turned to an inky blue. However, the occupied populations and the Silky road remained intact.
