After reading an article in NYT, I learned how one might suppress her creativity by not allowing the brain to get inspired in its wonderland, after it wakes up in the morning. So, give yourself time in the morning to tune into your meandering mind:
Take time to get up: after wakening up, stay more in the bed, allowing inspired connections to be made.
Enjoy a longer warm shower: dismiss task-oriented thoughts in favor of mental dilution.
Take deep breaths during your commute: the stress hormone (cortisol) harms myelin sheaths, consequently slowing down the speed with which signals are transferred, thus making Eureka moments less likely!
Drink a coffee: Caffeine makes us more alert, and also increases the brain's level of dopamine, the neurotransmitter that influences the level of motivation and reward.
Watch an upbeat video: a positive mood increases cognitive flexibility, while a negative mood narrows our mental horizons.
